Meteorologist Tom Hagen

Welcome Meteorologist Tom Hagen
KSNT 27 Weather Center

Tom Hagen from the KSNT Channel 27 Weather Center visited the second graders to support our science unit on Weather.  He shared lots of his knowledge with us about weather patterns, how weather develops and gets measured, and how to stay safe in severe weather.  He showed us how clouds are formed by making a cloud in a bottle (with our help!).  He read the book, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, that reinforces the Water Cycle.
What a treat to have him in our building today!  Enjoy these pictures from our morning...
Welcome Tom Hagen!

Tom asks us the question, 'How do clouds form?'

He shows us how to make a cloud form inside a bottle.

Aydin and Kaiden helped to demonstrate how tornadoes form.

He read the book, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs to help illustrate how the water cycle works and repeats in nature.

We got to ask a few weather related questions too!  Tom told us his favorite kind of weather is when it's SUNNY!

He captured our attention and was so enjoyable to listen to!

He got lots of laughs out of us!  Thanks for stepping away from the Weather Center to spend some time with us!
See you on TV!  :)

Elmont Book Fair

It's Time For The Annual Elmont Book Fair...

Mrs. Myers arranges our Book Fair every year.  She, along with a load of volunteers, pulls off an amazing week for us year after year.

We get to go the library and 'shop' at the beginning of the week.  We make out our Wish Lists and take them home to share with our families.  We even get to have a Family Night where we can bring our parents to shop too!
We go back down to the library later in the week to make our purchases.  It's like having a bookstore right inside our library!  The room is filled with books, books, books.!

During the week, we are encouraged to read for 30 minutes every night to build good reading habits for life.  Our parents sign off that we've completed our task and we turn in our little blue tickets for the drawing at the end of the week.  Our little red basket was SO full!

At the end of the week, we draw two winners from the basket.  Aydin was the lucky winner of a poster. Great pick, Aydin!

Jacquelyn was our lucky free book winner.  She was so super excited to hear her name drawn.  Wish you could have seen her face!  Congratulations, girls!
Thanks to Everyone who dropped a ticket in the basket to support our reading during this year's Book Fair.  It was another success!  :)

A beautiful stream of water against the blue sky.  It was a perfect day for an outdoor field trip!

Here we are with our smiling faces just before we head back to school.  :)
